Conifers Add Plenty Of Winter Garden Interest

Let’s face it, winter can be kind of bare in the garden. Luckily for us there are plenty of really striking conifers with interesting forms and colors. These needled plants can transform landscapes from ordinary to extraordinary with their assortment of sizes, shapes and textures. Conifers come in a variety of colors including green, yellow, blue and purple. Low maintenance and easy to grow, conifers add intrigue to the winter garden and bridge the seasons with color.

Pinus strobus ‘Niagara Falls’ – Niagara Falls White Pine

 

This striking pine with cascading limbs will be the talk of your garden. Its flowing habit mimics that action of the roaring Niagara Falls! A very distinctive specimen.

 

 

Thuja koraiensis ‘Glauca Prostrata’ – Spreading Korean Arborvitae

This plant sports elegant, soft textured branches holding multicolored needles comprised of a blue-green upper surface and a ghostly white reverse. An excellent alternative to spreading Junipers.

This plant is a real showstopper with dark green needles. It has a dense, flattened globular mound habit with the lower branches spread outward and the inner branches spread inward. Excellent accent plant.

 

Cedrus libani ‘Sargentii’ – Dwarf Cedar Of Lebanon

We saved a good one for last. It is simply one of the most beautiful, picturesque evergreen specimen trees. A graceful dwarf cedar that has a round mound-like shape and long, stiff, dark green needles with barrel-shaped cones.
