Fall Flowering Plants You Should Consider

Do not let the end of summer fool you, there are still a lot of plants that will give your garden wonderful color a deeper into fall. In fact, some of the most lovely bloomers are those that are showing off right now. The best part, garden centers and nurseries are purposely stocking these plants right now in hopes of luring gardeners back to shop. 

Sedum spectabile‘Autumn Joy’ – Autum Joy Stonecrop

Hibiscus syriacus – Rose Of Sharon

Large, colorful flowers that appear in late summer and continue until frost. Many cultivars are available which offer delicate blooms of white, pink, red, lavender or purple. Full sun to partial shade. A tough perennial. Sedum spectabile ‘Autumn Joy’ features pink flowers that age to a rosy-russet in the fall.

Blue Mist Plant – Caryopteris x clandonensis ‘Blue Mist’

This shrub is 2 to 4 feet tall and wide, creating a big impact even in a small space. As a long, glorious hedge, it is breathtaking. Butterflies can’t resist these blue blooms, adding even more color to the garden!

Echinacea purpurea ‘Magnus’ – Purple Coneflower

A popular summer blooming perennial, Echinacea purpurea ‘Magnus’ features non-dropping rosy purple petals with a dark cone in the middle. A great fresh cut or dried flower, the cones well remain to winter and attract goldfinches to the garden.

Solidago rugosa ‘Fireworks’ – Rough Goldenrod

Featuring lacy flower panicles that resemble fireworks, Solidago rugosa ‘Fireworks’ is a clump-forming cultivar. A perfect fit to mix in with perennials or grasses.

Anemone × hybrida Margaret e’ – Japanese Anemone

An outstanding plant in the fall, Anemone × hybrida ‘Margarete’ features semi-double hot pink flowers in the fall. A great cut flower!

Eutrochium maculatum – Joe Pye Weed

A tall and stately plant with brilliant pink booms. Great native nectar plant, Butterflies love them.
