Add A Splash Of Color With These Colorful Summer Perennials
“Summer is here and the living is easy”.
Great words to live by. Thus, it is time to sit back and enjoy the splendor of your garden. But if you want to make some additions that will add a blast of color, here are some summer perennials that will do the job.
A purple -pink bloom that will have you gawking. Unlike most Phlox, this variety is mildew resistant so has earned a place in the garden. Expect a flurry of pollinator activity!
A stunning yellow bloomer that will brighten any corner. All Coreopsis are tough and reliable and this one is no different. At 2 ½’ high, it is a showstopper.
2017 Perennial Plant of the Year. A punch of intense tangerine orange invites droves of butterflies. A butterfly host plant for Monarchs in particular; butterflies also cherish its lavish flower clusters filled with scrumptious nectar.
Of course Black Eye Susan is on our list, but this one is a dwarf! Compact form is shorter than the older selection Goldsturm but blooms just as long. Flowers are followed by attractive black seed heads that remain through the winter.
Great blooms all summer long! ‘Pica bella’ features deep pink flowers with an orange cone that are beloved by butterflies.
Yarrow is a trooper that tolerates drought and commonly appears in inhospitable disturbed sites. Foliage, however, looks delicate and ferny. Bloom time is long and flowers attract beneficial insects.
An upright clump-forming perennial, Salvia x sylvestris ‘Blue Hill’, has pure blue flowers in the late spring to summer. Leaves are aromatic. Attracts butterflies!
Normally quite a low maintenance plant and is normally very easy to grow – great for beginner gardeners! Brilliant yellow flowers.
