A multi-stemmed, suckering deciduous shrub, Cornus alba 'Kesselringii' features dark red stems that turn attractive shades of dark red stems in the winter. Tiny yellowish-white flowers appear in flat-topped lusters in the late spring attracting butterflies. Flowers give way to white berries which are beloved by bids. Elliptic to ovate green leaves turn shades of red and purple in the fall.

Tolerant of wide range of soils including dry soils as well as wet soils once established. Trim roots and suckers to prevent unwanted spread. Best stem color is on younger stems. Prune annually 25% of old stems to aid with new growth or cut stems to the ground every three years.
