Add A Splash Of Color With Late Summer Flowering Perennials

 

By late summer, the garden is starting to look tired and dry. Don’t get depressed over it, there are plenty of late summer flowering perennials that will add splashes of color and bring your garden back to life. These are tough plants that can take the heat and dryness. Many of them attract butterflies and other pollinators. Some of them even make excellent cut flowers to brighten the inside of our home as well!

 

Sedum spectabile ‘Autumn Joy’ – Autumn Joy Stonecrop

Sedums are the workhorses of the late summer garden. They are extremely dependable and tough. Autumn Joy is a particularly beautiful variety with its burnt pink flowers.

 

 

 

 

Solidago rugosa ‘Fireworks’ – Fireworks Goldenrod

The name says it all! Brilliant yellow, lacy flowers that will light up your garden. A perfect fit to mix in with perennials or grasses.

This is the plant you think of when you think of daisies. Just a really delightful flower. It can easily be cut back for compact growth and re-flowering. Nice cut flower too.
