Our garden is growing! I guess hard work and a little knowledge pays off. We have been fortunate to only have two minor pest problems; Cabbage Loopers on the Cauliflower and Colorado Potato Beetle nymphs on the Eggplants. Taking care of both was just a matter of picking them off and putting them in a dish of soapy water. For the record, our garden is organic so we use no pesticides whatsoever. Here is what we have growing:
Yellow Zucchini (very sweet) | Green Zucchini | Spaghetti Squash |
Butternut Squash | 6 varieties of peppers | 11 varieties of tomato (all heirloom |
Cucumbers | Red Beets | Golden Beets |
Broccoli | Caulilower | Brussel Sprouts |
Kale | Spinach | Arugula |
Spring Onions | Red Onions | Eggplant |
3 varieties of Oregano | Thyme | Sweet Basil |
Thai Basil | Cilantro | Asparagus |
Yukon Gold Potatoes | Purple Potatoes | Radish |
Carrots | Calendula | Green Beans |
An exciting new addition to the garden is a Bee Home with cocoons that have begun hatching Leaf Cutter Bees provided by our friends at Kind Bee Farms (https://kindbeefarms.com/buy-bee-kit/). Leaf Cutter Bees are small, non-aggressive bees that are super pollinators, just what our garden needs to produce all the veggies. They began hatching this week and will begin laying eggs in the nesting tubes. If you are looking for seeds, we recommend checking out seedsnow. We are now in the process of planning our “second season”, the fall crops. Stay tuned for more on this later.
